what i think what this quote means is that if you tell one lie you are going to start even saying more and more until  you can't even keep count because it begins with just one lie until your addiction of lies have started lot of people have told lies because  they don't want to get into trouble so they try to find a way out of being a suspect and hoping that will target someone else. but if you tell a lie  instead of telling the truth you are going to get into more trouble with everyone you lie especially if it is about a really serious thing. but if you tell the truth and you were the one that actually did they will give you a less consequence then a higher one than the truth one
